Prepare first, then act on an opening. Here is the practical sequence, with direct links to BLS.
Register on the official UAE portal before you need a slot. Enter your name, passport details, dates, mobile number and email carefully. The registration page warns that submitted details cannot be changed.
Create an official BLS accountKeep a clear, recent digital portrait ready, with a plain light background. As a preparation tip, save a copy below 200 KB. Check the live upload field for the accepted format and size; the 200 KB limit is not confirmed in the public UAE instructions.
The digital booking photo is separate from the printed visa photograph. Follow each set of instructions.Set up Spain alerts for your preferred UAE city. When Slotbys detects a matching opening, use the notification as a prompt to check BLS. You can also check the official portal yourself; a paid alert service is optional.
Sign in to BLS and start a new booking. Select the application centre, visa type and category that match your purpose. For a tourist trip, follow the short-stay tourist options shown. Choose an available date and time.
Open the official booking portalFollow the portal’s photo upload and identity-verification prompts yourself. If a live camera check is requested, have the applicant and a camera-enabled device ready. Pay only the charges shown on the official portal and save the confirmation.
The exact screen order after login has not been independently verified. Follow the current BLS flow; an alert or payment attempt alone is not a confirmed booking.Bring the appointment confirmation, passport and complete document set. Submit your application, complete biometrics when required and pay any remaining official fees. Keep your receipt and tracking reference.
The BLS UAE notice says online BLS charges are non-refundable and appointments cannot be rescheduled; changing a booking requires cancellation and a new appointment. Review the current conditions before paying.
BLS booking & payment noticeA preparation list for UAE applicants. Use the official checklist for the full requirements and your individual circumstances.
Passport: issued within 10 years, two blank pages and at least three months beyond the requested visa’s expiry. UAE residence: at least one month beyond that expiry. Include required copies of previous residence permits.
Signed application form, appointment confirmation and a white-background printed photograph taken within six months (one month for children under three).
Employer NOC and salary evidence, family-sponsor documents or a translated trade licence, depending on your situation.
Three months of personal bank statements, accommodation evidence, a signed itinerary and return reservation.
Schengen-wide cover for the requested period, at least €30,000 including repatriation.
Check parental consent, birth certificates and sponsor documents. The checklist also specifies a translated marriage certificate for spouses of different nationalities.
Your itinerary, accommodation, insurance and reservations should describe the same trip. Reviewing this list is a preparation aid, not confirmation that your application is complete.
No verified UAE-wide average is published in the sources reviewed. These are official processing guidelines, not measured average turnaround times.
The normal decision period after an application is lodged.
Spanish Embassy guidanceMore detailed checks or additional documents can extend the process.
EU processing guidanceThe BLS tourist page advises at least three weeks and notes possible delays.
BLS UAE guidanceFinding an available slot comes first. Processing starts after submission; it does not start when you subscribe to alerts. Allow extra time for centre-to-embassy transfer and passport return.
The EU application window starts six months before travel. Its general minimum is 15 days before departure, but BLS UAE advises a longer buffer. Do not treat the minimum as a guaranteed travel-ready date.
Application windowLiving in Dubai or Abu Dhabi does not automatically make your passport visa-exempt. Check the rules for the passport you will travel with.
The Spanish Embassy states that UAE nationals do not need a Schengen visa for short visits. The 90-days-in-180 limit and entry conditions still apply. UAE residence alone does not provide the same exemption.
Embassy informationOrdinary passport holders from India, Pakistan and Russia are among those listed as requiring a visa. Exceptions can depend on passport type or status. A UAE residence permit is not a Schengen visa.
EU nationality listQualifying family members of EU/EEA citizens may have a free, accelerated procedure. Confirm eligibility and the correct category. As a general rule, apply in your country of legal residence, not simply where you are visiting.
EU application guidanceFor a multi-country tourist trip, apply where you will spend the most time. If stays are equal, use the country you enter first. A convenient appointment is not a reason to submit an inaccurate itinerary.
